Tequila! Many have fallen in love with the tasty drink made from the blue agave plant. But, what many are not aware of is the rich history and culture behind their favorite distilled spirit.
First discovered by the inhabitants of Mexico, the juice of the blue agave plant has been a popular drink for hundreds of years. However, it is believed that it was not until the 16th century when the Spaniards brought distillation to Mexico, that tequila – as we know it today – was introduced.
Tequila, in one form or another, has always been the center of cultural ceremonies and traditions. Today, tequila is often the drink of choice during many Mexican holidays and celebrations.
