IZKALI Tequila is known for it’s strong aroma, which is a reliable indicator of its quality and place of origin. So where is IZKALI Tequila made, and what unique characteristics does the region have to offer?
Tequila can only be produced in designated geographic areas in Mexico: the state of Jalisco and certain regions of the states of Michoacán, Guanajuato, Nayarit and Tamaulipas. In the state of Jalisco, there are two main areas that produce tequila: the area surrounding Tequila, Jalisco and Los Altos, where IZKALI Tequila is made. Although these areas are not far from one another, they each have very unique growing conditions that contribute to the taste of the final tequila product.
The area surrounding Tequila, Jalisco, also known as the lowlands, is about 3,000 feet above sea level. The dirt is light brown in color and the growing conditions are warm and dry. Due to the semi-arid climate, the tequila produced in the lowlands tends to be drier, with a more herbal-like flavor.
On the other hand, Los Altos, also knows as the highlands, is about 7,500 feet above sea level. The dirt is red in color and rich in minerals. The growing conditions are cool, which yields slower growing agave plants. The longer growth period gives the heart of the agave more time to produce higher levels of sugar, which in return produces a more aromatic and sweeter tequila! These are the unique characteristics you can find with IZKALI Tequila.
The region in which IZKALI Tequila is produced is crucial to the final product. Choosing the geographic area in which the agave plants will be grown is the first step in the tequila-making process. Each step along the way is important and makes IZKALI Tequila the tequila that it is today!
